TCU looks for new opponent in season opener after Tennessee Tech cancels

TCU is looking for a new opener for the college football season.

FCS member Tennessee Tech has canceled its game with TCU, one that was scheduled last month after the Horned Frogs had lost its games with Cal and Prairie View A&M. The Tennessee Tech game was one reason why SMU-TCU could not be rescheduled this season.

TCU athletic director Jeremiah Donati confirmed in a text message that the game had been canceled.

”We have had a contingency plan in place for a replacement on that date and anticipate being able to make that announcement in the near future,” Donati said in a statement.

Tennessee Tech’s cancellation comes from the Ohio Valley Conference’s decision to postpone all fall sports.

Southern Methodist Mustangs wide receiver Reggie Roberson Jr. (8) catches a pass as TCU Horned Frogs safety Trevon Moehrig (7) defends during the second quarter of a college football game between SMU and TCU on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth.
